I have always been a creative individual: everything I look at has hidden potential, and the excitement lies in what might become as a result of what I do. Art, architecture, and design are never stagnant. At any stage in the creative process, from creation to potential destruction, each entity is shaped by its environment, who or what is surrounding it, and the circumstances it endures. In the same way, I am the sum of my experiences. Where I go, what I see, and who I meet along the way inform the next step in my process and the others I affect. Throughout my travels and experiences I have become increasingly intrigued by the people, cultures, and world around me. Having lived in the same state for nearly all of my life, it was incredible to venture to various European cities where the structural remains and preserved treasures are thousands of years old. It is dizzying to consider the amount of human interaction and brilliance that occurred in such iconic locations. I was also fortunate enough to experience life in Hawaii living completely off the grid on an organic farm. I was immersed in an extremely different way of life, observed many sustainable agricultural methods, and designed and built several structures that would later serve the community.
As a designer, it encourages and challenges me to leave my own legacy for future generations, particularly as far as sustainability is concerned. We must start acting in a way that acknowledges how precious and limited Earth's resources are. Being a creative individual, I am equipped and highly capable of thinking in the mindset that could hopefully repair some of the damage caused by past generations. Sustainable technology needs to become subconscious within the design process of the built environment. Since our existence, humans have lived with far less than we consider "necessary" today, and maybe it is time we start reverting back to humbler means while striving for an equal quality of life. It is my dream that with enough creativity, persistence, and passion, we can come together to change the world through design.
